Today I saw a beautiful woman,
her eyes passed through me like an arrow
and held me in space.

Today I saw a beautiful woman
and everything shattered, fell away
like a cliff succumbing to the oceans depth.

And there she held me in total silence
as though I had been hit by religion,
a spiritual sense of something beautiful.

My eyes surrendered to that silence,
a moments recognition of what lies
ahead, an ephemeral moment
spreading out like a universe.

It was the big bang – crazy, surreal –
a sense that time catches up with events,
as though you sat knowing the stars intent.
And then our souls turned when our eyes looked away

and said “I have waited you understand
because this moment was promised to me
when they promised life.” And now you are the

only woman I can love because I
have only one soul which I gave to you,
gave in that moment of stunned silence.

Today I saw a beautiful woman
and no one knew as I stood there that I
had fallen in love.

Ah, thanx as always Alice. Do u believe in love at first sight? I'm sure it happens everyday!

Matty, you should have named this Lucky.
because once in every life love should treat you so kind.

This is not only a poem...it's an epiphany and only written when felt. That's why you should call it Lucky.

ha, thanx peachy for such a lovely thought. Lucky is such a beautiful word!!

Matt, there's a lot of faith in your words, optimism is a courageous trait and one I commend you for it. Some might call this love at first sight, that only happens to one in a million. Follow your heart, Matt. ~ Nixie

hey thanx for such a lovely comment. Love at first sight?
As the beatles song says, "Do you believe in love at first sight, yes i'm certain that it happens all the time."
And why not!

:D A hypnotizing magnetic pull ^_^ that's what it reminds me of. of course I love your discriptions better. Love at first sight? well I feel that what ever it is, it is meant to be, like you made some sort of pact before you were born maybe. haha well,
did you ask her out?

Ah, that's a very lucky woman, Matt. Your words are breathtaking and eloquent. Its one of those poems that literally gets a physical response from the reader. The heart beats faster, the pulse speeds up. I've reread it several times and it keeps happening. "And there she held me in total silence" stops me everytime. Its really amazing and sweet. You've done such a wonderful job!

hey thanx for stopping by the read, much appreciated!

Matt, what a moving poem! Indeed lucky, it's amazing what you can see in a face isn't it? I do believe in love at first sight, it's that moment where you both look at each other and connect with out words. It's recognition, and I felt that in this. Great poem! ~ KB

Ah, thanx for such a wonderful comment. Your comment reminds me of Christopher Marlowe’s lines:
“Was this the face that launch'd a thousand ships
And burnt the topless towers of Ilium?
Sweet Helen, make me immortal with a kiss.”

Of course this is a reference to Helen of Troy, and shows you the influence of a beautiful woman, and how it as influecned literature for thousands of years. Symbolically a beautiful face causes a battle within all of us. Who saw her first? I think that would have to be Homer, for how else could he write such an amazing poem. My poem could easily be called Today I saw Helen of Troy.

Excellent write, it's very well written and I love the ending, a truely beautiful poem.

Hey thank u so much for stopping by. So glad u like the poem! I b stopping by your page soon to read your work. Thanx again!

Ah, such admiration I'm sure every woman has dreamt to have directed at her. There's a certain throwback to more courtly ways, in the words used in your poem-- loving, tender and detailed homage to a lover's beauty. The true sparkle in your poem is how the desire may have begun with a pretty face, but endured because of a deeper love, a stronger connection.
If this art truly imitates life, she is one lucky lady and you are unbelievably blessed.
Take care.

This poem is beautiful - I love it. :) It flows perfectly, and I can almost feel your emotion behind it just by reading it. Amazing job! :) I'd begun to lost hope, but your poem helped me realize again that there is such a thing as love at first sight - thank you for that. Any woman would be lucky to have such a flattering poem written about her.
