Suddenly woken by a candle lit moth
I froze in my sleep, hid under the cloth
It fluttered, as it flickered
The dim lights had given him up to me.
Gathering my courage, set out from the sheets
Wrapped up in silks that nature bequeathed
I sought to cup him in hand
And clip those wings that awaken me.
Awaken me from a slumber deep
Awaken things I no longer need
I awoke to the world around me.
So I gasped and he ran, took flight dissapeared
I saw him hiding behing the lightshade
With no little stealth, much less of a warning
I went for the kill, my fingers were burning
T'antamount to Icarus, flew close to the bulb
I just got a stare, that said Methelusa, you fool!
So I slinked back to bed, awash in my head
The night that had brought me such pain,
A moth hit the lights, instigated a fight,
And came out on top, once again.
