Through this bizarre life
we all wear a multitude of masks,
hiding the true self from everyone.
Never to let it be known,
just to avoid the hurtful words
that others would say.
Just wanting to please everyone,
being a chameleon -
to blend into the crowd.
Continuously doing this
through the years,
till finally
the true identity lost forever.
Making you nothing more
than a mere shell
of who you used to be.
Just to find such exceptance,
has such a dangerous mental price
for us all.

hi! mikey. very true. but if everyone let their hair down and stated what they had in their hearts, they won't survive at all. both ways, one is a loser. so mental agony is better than stating the right thing. it is the question of survival rather being a chameleon. thoughtful. lol. ;-)

Thanks Bubbly. You are right about that. I really didn't think about that when I wrote this. Thank you for enlightening me about that point. I always appreciate your comments. ;-)

I think there probably has to be a happy medium somewhere. You can't show yourself all the time, but when you do its nice to have a little acceptance. Nice poem!
