The Masks We Wear

Poetry By: Michael68

Oh, how we live such complicated lives. Never to really find the strength to survive everything that does come forth.

Through this bizarre life
we all wear a multitude of masks,
hiding the true self from everyone.
Never to let it be known,
just to avoid the hurtful words
that others would say.
Just wanting to please everyone,
being a chameleon -
to blend into the crowd.
Continuously doing this
through the years,
till finally
the true identity lost forever.
Making you nothing more
than a mere shell
of who you used to be.
Just to find such exceptance,
has such a dangerous mental price
for us all.
