A Darker Shade of Guilt
Ever since my wreck, it’s been a darker shade of guilt
This is the stuff from which nightmares are built
Something occurs, and I over-think it backwards and forwards;
Until the problem seems much worse than it needs to be; words
Never said, except in my head
What if? What if? What if it happens this way instead?
Dark scenarios play themselves out,
Deeper and deeper, the shame and doubt
Bent and tortured, the things my mind sees
Will it ever quit haunting me? Will I ever be free
From the guilt? I’ve always felt this way a little bit,
But since the wreck it’s hit
Me a whole lot worse; it’s all the time now
I’ve got to get past this; please show me how
