I Choose; poetry-sarcasm

Poetry By: Mike Stevens

My take on what it must be like to be gay now; especially in light of the beliefs of certain presidential candidates!

I Choose

I chose to be bullied unmercifully in school

I choose to be everyone's punching bag

I choose to be a societal leper

I choose to be made to feel a freak

I choose to have everyone avoid me

I chose to be gay, and not straight

I chose this lifestyle; I could have made a different choice

I enjoy being the target of hateful jokes

I hate myself because society says I'm different,

But it was MY choice; society's not to blame

Thank goodness I can just pray the away the gay

It's not too late to choose a different path

I see the error of my ways, and will do something about it

Thank goodness there's smarter people than I,

Who point out the way back to acceptable

I didn't realize just how wrong my thinking was
