Earning Your Trust While
Raking it In
I’m going to have power; I’m running for high office
If I tell you what you want to hear, I just can’t miss
I’ll use the system to get all I need
Behind this mask I wear is nothing but greed
Yes, I’ll play the part; shaking babies and kissing hands
I’ll change my position like the shifting sands
Double-speak is the way that I talk
Like a king is the way that I walk
I’m as corrupt as the day is long
With my gleaming smile; you won’t think I’m ever wrong
I’m a snake oil salesman wrapped up in the flag
Pay me good money and my vote’s in the bag
Where my soul’s supposed to be, there’s just a dollar sign
If it’s gold or green, I’ll make it mine
I’m a real comer; yes, I’m on the rise
If you knew the real truth, me you’d despise
But I keep my true self hidden from view,
‘cause I’d be in prison if anyone knew
Ambition burns white-hot in my head
I’m not above turning my back on what I’ve publicly said
Dollar signs fill my eyes and they control my actions
Yes, raking in the money really gives me satisfaction
Give me your vote and it’ll make me happy
Only yourselves to blame, when later I prove to be real crappy!
