Letter to a Friend
The time slips on past; how it got away from us, we just don’t know
Where has it gone? Were did it go?
Yet here you are, still mourning the past
What a waste, because today won’t last
You’re so caught up in things that didn’t go right,
that you forgot how to hope, yes, you lost sight
of all the good things this world has to offer,
but all you can see is the horrible way we treat each other
It’s sad, really, because you just can’t be glad
You’re still missing all the things you once had
Look at you, with that scowl on your face,
and your negative vocabulary, with cynics’ talk it’s laced
When did you change from upbeat to not?
When did your outlook change, along with your thoughts?
And so I’m writing you this letter, in case your forget,
and in the negative your mind becomes set
Any time it seems that the world’s gone to hell,
to read this reminder; of that you’d do well!
This is a letter from me to me
Just a reminder of how your life should be
