Strange Days Indeed
The T.V. is reflecting some unbelievable scenes
I sit and watch in a trance-like state; how can all this be?
Revolt in the middle east; some crack down,
People dead in the streets, after freedom they thought they’d found
Some Americans say, “Build the fence!
Keep those foreigners out on any pretext!”
They don’t stop and think that once that was them
I guess it’s okay, “We’re safely here; send
the desperate home; kick them out, it was different for me.”
And the political partisanship is something to see
One side does nothing, the other they do slam,
Yelling and screaming that only they understand
Our president’s from somewhere else,
He’s not like you and me; they sound the bells
of danger, while ignoring the truth they find easy
while taking the most innocent thing, and making it sound sleazy
I really thought, in retrospect so wrong on my part,
that upon his election, the other side would have a change of heart,
and set aside their differences, for the country’s good
Instead, their hatred came to the fore, so wrongly I understood
With all the severe problems we face,
what do they do? They say to put the president in his place,
which is out of power; then things will magically be okay!
“Look out America!” They make us so afraid
Yes, they fall back on the things that worked before
Instead of putting America first, they want to settle a political score
Those examples are just three of many, take your pick
Those and all the rest, make me physically sick
I feel we had a chance for things to radically change,
but instead on T.V. I see thing’s that are really strange!
