Ohio River in Winter

Poetry By: Mistress of Word Play

I have always had a fascination with the rivers and lakes that are all around us here in Western Kentucky. I share this moment with you.

Stillness is observed across the river
and the grass lies dead, it makes me shiver.
There is a feeling of death and desolation
here in this moment of my isolation.

Tiny flakes of snow so white, pristine
fall upon the frozen ground, a sight obscene.
Yet there across the frozen water lies
the reflection of the winter's skies.

It is strange in life how we sometimes observe
when nature throws us an unexpected curve.
There amid all the tragedy and despair
radiates the beauty of nature, so fair.
