Staring into the blank clouds under heaven and hell and all the spaces of limbo in between
We look up shouting, screaming, begging for some nonexistent deity to come down and promise us cures for Cancer
After the lakes have thawed and the Earth has frozen, we will stare downwards into the cold dark abyss
And ask ourselves not what is down there but how do we get down there
How do we reach that bottom of the abyss that ended the suffering of so many great men and women
We jump throwing ourselves down the narrow shaft hoping that our new liposuctioned waists will keep us from getting caught between the walls
But our broken arms and tattered feet hold us steady and we fall fall fall fall fall
Until we meet the flat ground that was said to hold the genius of Teasdale, of Hemmingway, of Plath, of Gogh
We see nothing but empty space at the bottom of this chasm and a sign saying "Welcome to Limbo. Welcome to nothingness"
We scream, and bawl, and cry in anguish and ecstasy for the ones we left behind to life with the greats
Oh the folly of our ways oh the Moloch of our love oh the poison of the cures, oh the promised end but in reality the endless beginning
Oh Eternity
