contemplation of a dinosaur

there was a baby dinosaur

whose life had been ordained
to spend his days a-shuffling
on a grassy humid plain
the dinosaur's not noted
for a scintillating mind
but this scaly little fellow
had an intellect, refined
he yearned to have a lifetime
that was not just drink and feed
and thoughtless procreation
to prolong their certain breed
and so for inspiration
he would gaze up in the sky
intuitively, he reasoned
that the answer came from high
there must be a creator
who had made us one and all
who'll show us greater glory
then this gently spinning ball
then one night he was rewarded
by a diamond in the sky
it stood out from the others
like a special passer-by
each night, as sun had settled
he would seek his special friend
and strive to sense the meaning
of the message it would send
and each night the star grew brighter
and the dinosaur was thrilled
he knew that very soon
his purpose here would be fulfilled
he wondered, "can i touch you ?"
and the star said, "yes you can"
and they finally met one evening
on the plains of yucatan
