i have for poems, a notebook

and i've reached the final page
this little cheapie notebook
now has finally shown it's age
i bought it at a market
where the goods cost ninety-nine
the cover was so pretty
it had such a sturdy spine
the first poem that i scribbled
was on april, twenty-four
and through this spring and summer
i have added dozens more
the book has eighty pages
but i use up every side
which brings it to one-sixty
with some pages used as guides
i have a list of notions
for the concepts of my poems
and i check off every item
when that idea finds a home
that list took up four pages
though i doubt you really care
just telling you the system
which i use to be prepared
and every time i write a poem
i'm sure to add the date
and just to ease my OCD
the time i calculate
i have a brand new notebook
that is waiting on the shelf
and i can't wait to get to it
and satisfy myself
this notebook's really wrecked now
full of scrawling through and through
the spine i had to tape up
now its nearly good as new
and of course i'm gonna keep it
there are treasures locked inside
though i edit while i'm typing
i still use it as a guide
and there's new adventures starting
as the old ones finally end
and i will share them all with you
for poems are for my friends
