they say that life is fuzzy dice
with all the dimples blurred
or ouija boards with weathered paint
so messages are slurred
when tarot cards have icons, marred
the fortune's not supplied
an eight ball is infinity
when resting on its side
the crystal ball that once enthralled
leaks secrets from it's cracks
and when you strip their clothing
you can't tell the kings from jacks
you cannot free the mystery
when ink drips off the page
you'll never catch the final act
when curtains hide the stage
the offered palm with lines upon
will not a tale, recall
there's nothing you can savor
where the leaves of tea may fall
though history is hard to seize
the future's even worse
the stars do not hold answers
they just light the universe
