whenever things are working well
i know they'll wiggle out
remotely, i just lose control
and reason turns to doubt
i think i'll take a long long walk
upon a short short wharf
so what's the use of trying
knowing "happy's" just a dwarf
the ace that i had up the sleeve
has tumbled to the floor
i've given all i've got to give
can't take it anymore
the odds are all against me
when i tangle with the fates
so what's the use of trying
knowing "joy's" just used for plates
i'm running on a treadmill
and it only spins and spins
and it seems my soul is bankrupt
just from paying for my sins
no matter how i run the race
i'm beaten by a nose
so what's the use of trying
knowing "cheer" is just for clothes
my life has been an opera
that's been fashioned out of soap
i've spent my whole life, giving in
now giving out , is hope
try bending over backward
and your back, you're gonna throw
so what's the use in trying
knowing "glee" is just a show
