a journey interrupted

you set yourself a standard

and the heights you strive to climb
the ladder's flimsy rope
but filled with hope
you take your time
you scale it rung to rung
but it's unstrung
without a rhyme
you find it's come unbraided
and you're robbed of the sublime
you find yourself escaping
to the land you used to dwell
although familiar ground
it seems unsound
there where you fell
but once you've braved the night
the morning, bright
will make you well
when heaven's freezing over
i'll be nice and warm in hell
