last night when i laid down my head

i thought i'd fall asleep
and walk the lovely corridors
of slumber, oh so deep
in dreams i would be swimming
while that clock just ticked away
instead that time was wasted
man, i could have slept all day
last night, i felt so peaceful
with the moonlight on my face
you'd think that kind god,morpheus
would touch me with his grace
now sol is holding court here
with his fury on display
i'm outside where it's baking
man, i could have slept all day
a quilt should bring security
a pleasant quiet snooze
just snoring like a motorboat
that's on a silken cruise
i should be 'neath my blanket
where it was so warm to stay
but now the day is chilly
man, i could have slept all day
the hours feel like minutes
when a nap you get to take
but minutes feel like hours
when you just lay there awake
i just kept counting sheep
but back in line, they would sashay
and now the time's unfolding
man, i could have slept all day
