your hair is lying softly
on your shoulder as you sleep
your eyes shut very tightly
and your breathing very deep
i lay my hand upon you
and you give a little stir
and make a gentle mouthing
that's half whisper and half purr
my hand detects the rhythm
and the patterns of your rest
a soft and subtle rustling
marks the rising of your chest
although your body's resting
your live mind is full awake
inventing strange scenarios
that only you can make
pure thoughts are running through you
like a myriad of streams
and i bend down to join them
as i kiss you in your dreams
