that lonely unstrung singer
with a pang that carves the heart
would caterwaul catastrophe
and dare to call it art

i listened to these simpletons
and sadly shook my head
and could not see the labyrinth
where that soul's mind was led

my hardened heart refused to budge
it sat upon a fence
but now i sit in wonder
for these love songs now make sense

my heart was made for pumping
just an anatomic tool
and i believed saint valentine
to be a common fool

i had no use for women
who would try to pin you down
and turn that sexy cocktail dress
into a wedding gown

my head was thinking clearly
as my heart remained quite dense
but now it's educated
for these love songs now make sense

i was a happy bachelor
i lived a care free life
without that monkey on my back
that some men call a wife

i reeled in my emotions
kept them life upon a shelf
the only one i loved
was that poor soul i called myself

my rusty suit of armor
was my main line of defense
but i stand quite naked
for these love songs now make sense
