when you are hiking through this life
you follow many trails
sometimes you find you smoothly glide
as if on polished rails
but legs aren't just for walking
you must also get your kicks
for having one foot in the grave

yes, life is like a garden
where's there's flowers, birds and fruit
and sometimes weeds so stubborn
they defy you to uproot
start harvesting some fun
before the reaper starts his tricks

and sometimes life's a prize fight
where there isn't any prize
and ruby tinted glasses
may disguise two blackened eyes
but don't let life just beat you up
you must get in your licks
for having one foot in the grave
is better off than six
your life is like a movie
and it screens without a script
and sometimes you get rave reviews
while other times you're ripped
create your soundtrack music
deftly add it to the mix
for having one foot in the grave
is better off than six
your life is just machinery
that sometime's out of whack
sometimes it ends up obsolete
sometimes you bring it back
you must make that decision
to just toss it out or fix
