when swimming in the womb
we are a sweet and perfect soul
the violence of our birth
then shatters all our self control
and those tiny jigsaw pieces
so symmetrical in form
are tossed into the universe
and with the others swarm
and we spend our lives collecting
all the remnants we can find
to solve that simple pattern
that was structured in our mind
some parts remain in hiding
lost in sin and pain and guilt
and leave a barren patchwork
in the palace we once built
but often other people
are the holders of that piece
and when they bring that gift to you
unhappiness will cease
and you're that special person
who has shown up with that key
to weave the threadbare places
that were lost in mystery
and in appreciation
i have something to give back
for in my hand i'm holding
all the pieces that you lack
and our completed puzzles
give us back our self control
we're swimming here together
two united perfect souls
