life had been a checkerboard

a crossword puzzle grid
all black and white
no gray in sight
in which i could have hid
then came the day i met you
and you make a big ker-splash
the black and white
flew left and right
exploding in the crash
it must be what it is
cause it sure ain't what it ain't
you livened up my psyche
with your purple paisley paint
life had been a pigeon hole
a most unpleasant place
a hole i'd dug
all nice and snug
and would not show my face
then came the day i met you
and you shoveled off the dirt
you rock and rolled
that pigeon hole
and kissed away my hurt
it must be what it is
cause it sure ain't what it ain't
you livened up my psyche
with your purple paisley paint
life had been a boring lunch
a sandwich with no meat
two crusts of bread
all stony dead
which i could barely eat
then came the day i met you
and you scared away the ghost
you loudly said
'let's ditch this bread'
'and let us raise a toast'
it must be what it is
cause it sure ain't what it ain't
you livened up my psyche
with your purple paisley paint
