a thousand crickets chirping

is a blanketing so kind
if one is only singing
i believe i'll lose my mind
as if i am pinocchio
the cricket seems to chide
he seems to want to counsel me
but i shall not confide
a thousand crickets chirping
often sounds just like a choir
if only one is singing
it just leaves my brain a-fire
so give to me the multitude
but not one buzzing imp
go rub your legs some other place
your sawing leaves me limp
a thousand crickets chirping
is a comfort to the ears
if only one is singing
i shall be awash with tears
so call up your relations
and let's have a jamboree
but if you're singing by yourself
you'll only torture me
a thousand crickets chirping
is like mother nature's best
if only one is singing
it can only be a pest
