a soulful game of scrabble
that is played without a board
you first must pick a subject
that is cherished and adored
the letters cling together
till a word is finally made
and then they're joined by others
in a curious parade
the couplings may cause laughter
or perhaps they'll bring on tears
at times they may nudge hopefullness
or plunder secret fears
but there seems to be no limit
to the combinations, tossed
sometimes they last for centuries
or in five minutes, lost
and i try to choose words wisely
in your mind, i want to stick
i do not want you thinking
"oh my gosh, he makes me sick"
for i guess i crave attention
when i've got some brand new shoes
i feel like showing off a bit
my poem, i hope you'll choose
and i hope it makes you ponder
be it weighty or absurd
in this soulful game of scrabble
i have played my latest word
