now, the angel and the devil

were close neighbors, it's been said

and they sat upon two shoulders

in between them was a head

and this man was always weighing

what was bad and what was good

and he always was debating

what he wouldn't do or would

yes, the man was ever painting

what was black and what was white

and he always was debating

what was wrong and what was right

but the angel loved the devil

and the devil loved her too

but the head there in the middle

never let their love shine through

for the angel and the devil

were believers in the gray

but the head there in the middle

never noticed things that way

the angel plays the fool sometimes

the devil will play tricks

but somewhere in the middle

you must find a pleasant mix
