based on a fable

there was a lad whose name was truth
and virtuous was he
there was a lad named falsehood
and he lacked veracity

they knew each other growing up
just how much ? well, that depends
although they were acquaintances
they weren't exactly friends

but one day falsehood had the urge
to have a little swim
but did not want to go alone
so sought truth, as a whim

now truth was rather leery
but because the day was hot
a dip in a relaxing pool
was such a pleasant thought

they dropped their clothes beside the lake
and splashed around a bit
then falsehood made his exit first
and on dry ground, alit

he saw the clothes that truth had worn
they were magnificent
and found they were a perfect fit
so down the road he went

when truth was finished with his swim
and climbed on the bank
he realized what had been done
and then his poor heart sank

although he knew the clothes would fit
he chose to leave them there
for truth could not wear falsehood's clothes
he rather would go bare
