i cannot pay my rent
the money's all been spent
i hate to screw the landlord
cause he's such a lovely gent
but the truth of the matter
yes, the truth of the matter
i'm afraid i'm flat broke
and the folks that owe me dough
are even flatter
my baby gave me thrills
and i'd be with her still
she said my face cannot replace
the ones on dollar bills
but the truth of the matter
yes, the truth of the matter
i'm afraid i'm flat broke
and the folks that owe me dough
are even flatter
i try and do my best
but i get so depressed
i missed one lousy payment
and my car got repossessed
but the truth of the matter
yes, the truth of the matter
i'm afraid i'm flat broke
and the folks that owe me dough
are even flatter
i piled up all my bills
i made a little hill
i added up the figures
and it made me deathly ill
but the truth of the matter
yes, the truth of the matter
i'm afraid i'm flat broke
and the folks that owe me dough
are even flatter
