TWICE AS DUMB

when i was young i longed to have

more lives than did a cat

i reached the year two thousand

and was awfully glad of that

i hope to beat the mayans

and their legendary curse

i may be getting gray a bit

but hell, things could be worse

perhaps in twenty twenty

things will all be crystal clear
an end to all disease and war

a world erased of fear

a ouija board once told me

i would die at eighty six

but this could be the devil

and his sordid bag of tricks

i hope imagination

will succeed me in the end

creating my own afterlife

as rich as i pretend

would it be very different

from the life i now possess ?

this notion seems as plausible

as any one, i guess

for now, i choose to relish

every day, as it may come

tomorrow, half as clever

and the next day, twice as dumb
