who knows why God gives out his gifts
then takes those gifts away
i pondered this strange paradox
a year ago today
most think they have full lives to live
and many times they may
i think about a life cut short
a year ago today
perhaps it was coincidence
or wicked fate at play
but in the end, the point was moot
a year ago today
when people lose their precious lives
the bells of heaven sway
but sadly, it hit close to home
a year ago today
at first there was denial
for that always is the way
your death seemed quite unreal to me
a year ago today
the song of life must always end
the piper you must pay
alas, your song stopped in mid-verse
a year ago today
