you read my mind like the new york times
you fill my cup before i ask for the wine
and in the mornings when we go for a walk
we are conversing though we don't even talk
you read my mind like a grocery list
you're on my lips before i ask for the kiss
and when i'm thinking 'bout a nice cigarette
i turn around and you have got the damn thing lit
because you can read my mind
and you can't put it down
please won't you read
the last page for me
pretend that i'm a rerun
like you'd see on TV
yes, you can read my mind
you're my closest friend
please won't you read
the last page for me
but please don't tell me how it ends
you read my mind like a library book
you make me food before i ask you to cook
you know sometimes that it frightens me
to be involved in such telepathy
you read my mind like you read the mail
you always know when you are on the trail
i'm acting happy but you know i am sad
i'm being pleasant but you know that i am mad
because you can read my mind
and you can't put it down
please won't you read
the last page for me
pretend that i'm a rerun
like you'd see on TV
yes, you can read my mind
you're my closest friend
please won't you read
the last page for me
but please don't tell me how it ends
