Hello Death
Disheartened?
Death has plagued me.
Every time I open my eyes he slaps me.
Hello death!
A soldier, a friend, an aunt, so many
Saddened for a while
Awoke one morning
Rain on the cusp; electricity in the sky, God was bowling again
A shower over the land,
Washed the dust off my car and the grief off my heart.
No more do I ponder why. Why death came knockin’
Hello Death!
You’ll come from my Memaw, Papaw and Mom,
You’ll knock for my father, my sister,
AND ME.
Hello Death!
I am no longer burdened by the fear you bring
I am now, still alive, heart beating, air breathing.
Dylan Thomas I will be.
A long boring life, what fun it that?
I’d much rather you knock
When I’m havin’ fun
If I don’t answer
I’m too busy livin’!
