Dandelions

In a secret garden in my mind,

there's dandelions, sunflowers, and roses.

I pick out the dandelions and blow

and I see the little seeds fly away.

Then I close my eyes and wish,

that someday true love will find me.

The seeds blow away across the cloudy sky

and again I'm standing there gazing so high.

Everyday I pick out a dandelion and blow,

then I make a wish because deep down,

I'm still hopeful..

I loved this! The whole idea of blowing the dandelion seeds was very good. I wish I'd thought of it! I thought the whole tone of the poem was nice.

I love how your poem involves around one particular image, and it's very effective because of that! It's a very romantic image in my head too, you know, the woman blowing dandelions across the field by herself wishing...

Very sad but hopeful too :) great work

(ahem especially since you wrote like 7 poems today already)

Very good! I agree with contoverse, it was a great idea to focus on the blowing of the dandelion petaly seedy things. =) Its good to have a poem that focuses on being hopeful when life today isn't exactly too promising.

Keep it up!

Beauteous! When and how do you write this stuff? Does it just pop into your head? Cuz if it does, you are SO lucky you have such a natural talent. I love it!! Mucho amor,

I used to make wishes on dandelions too. Some came true and others weren't meant to be. Just letting them go into the world is a lesson in hope.

Posted: Jun 22, 2008

Author Comment:

yea the lesson is hope :D

Ah, the potential here! Show me. Don't tell me. Consider concentrating on the image of blowing the seeds of the dandelion/milkweed. The puckering of the lips. The blowing of a kiss to your true love . . . Ah so much potential . . . unrealized. :)

awwwww this is just sooo sweet, i really liked this, usually with poems I get bored because people tend to write (no offense) about heart break and tears etc etc, but you wrote a simple and effective poem that has left me thinking and caused my hand to approach "the i like button"
I am waiting patiently for you to check out my stuff like my new short story "where is the love?" and my new poem "Today's thorns tommorrows roses" thank you ever so much!!
Happy days!

yay :D oh sorry! i will definetly check em out! :D

You know, what I love about this poem is that fact that it is so endearingly simple. No big words, no particular rhyme. Just a simple expression of feelings.

However, after I sat back and reflected on it, it seemed so much more profound than apparent at first glance. I don't know if I misinterpreted it or not, but the last few lines seemed to have a hint of sorrow in it which did not tarnish the overall feel-good aspect of the poem at all but seemed to add to it.

profound?

This one gave this warm feeling I so very much needed. Thank you!

Very nice poem. Reading it reminded me of my youth when times were so carefree, and I used to blow dandelion seeds just to see them fly, thinking that they looked like little parachutes falling from the sky.

Aw...it broke my heart. So much passion to share and so hopeful. And the imagery was so touching, so vivid, so sensual. What a beautiful heart you have. It was so lovely a poem that it has painted a flowing picure in my mind. Tremendous... And stay hopeful; one day all wish for will be realized..:)
