Moment of Disconsolation

The fog curtained over

the mountains in the distance

of unsteady steps.

An ear-piercing scream

rang out in the silent gloom

and red-eyed crows, startled

flew in every direction.

The young heart stopped

and of what eyes last saw

were bald-headed vultures.

The fog that curtained over

the mountains in the distance

of unsteady steps,

revealed the bare hard bloodstained ground

where life was stolen.

A spine-shivering glare

and a row of square teeth did show.

Blood dripping from the deathly weapon

frightened the vultures

as no creature could stand against man.

The small young body

of the helpless creature

now in the hands of death itself

hungry still for flesh.
