Those were the days
when we ran freely in the meadows
watched crazy cartoons on the couch
and sang weird songs in the public
like there is no tomorrow

Those were the days
when we gossiped about our classmates
made fun of our teachers
and talked of our dreams and aspirations
like time is forever on our side

Alas
time does not side anyone
the earth will never stop spinning
and we have transitioned
from innocent little boys
into young men of diverse personalities

You found new friends in your new environments
you got absorbed into your own world
you started to distance yourself
you began to lead your life
without my companionship
anymore

You said you were busy negotiating businesses
when I asked you out for coffee
you said you were on the other side of the world
when you were just right there in the mall
choosing the better toothpaste
pretending you didn't see me
--------------------------------------------------------------
Why do you have to deceive me
I wonder
What demolished our solid friendship
I question
Do you really wish not to see me in life forever
----------------------------------------------------------------
Alas
these are the enigmas
that I simply cannot decipher
though they may seem trivial to others
they are worth more than any gold or silver to me
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Gone were the days
when we share our joyful times together
when we celebrate our triumphant moments together
when we seek solace in each other's presence
during sorrowful periods
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you remember
we once said Friends Forever
however
it is crystal clear that
we will never ever be
more than strangers
