You should have seen the face,
Bulging eyes,
Flared nostrils.
You should have heard the words,
B**** this, B**** that,
Go on your way and don't come back.
You should have followed the moves,
Couldn't keep still,
Couldn't look me in the eye,
Shifting weight from one leg to the other.
Who was this man before me?
The one who said he loved me.
How could he despise me so?
I stood still and absorbed the assault.
I was unmoved,
I was not angered,
I smiled deep down inside.
This battle was won.
This attack halted by a quiet spirit.
Inner peace is powerful,
It subdues the angry tide,
protects from the sharp edged sword of words.
It creates an aura of impermeable light.
It reduces enemies
to babbling fools.
