Smile (for the moment)

Poem By: Nazaya
Poetry

My aunt Izzy was one of the best people to know. Anytime I needed someone to talk to she was always there to listen. With every story she told me there was always a way she turned a negative situation into a positive, so when she passed away all I could remember was the life lessons she would tell me. She always told me she never wanted me to cry at her funeral, just smile. So this poem is dedicated to my late aunt Izzy, also my best friend. View table of contents...

My best friend told me some news today. News I didn't want to hear but today became that rainy day. News was today is a new day. Told me to smile for the moment, so I said, "but people come and go", still my friend told me to smile it uplifts the soul. I asked my friend, "well what about when I go through bad days?" Still my friend tells me to smile, I asked, "what about when I loose money?" Still smile, so I asked, "when do I stop smiling?" My friend looking up at me and simple wearing a smile and I can remember on that day she said, "when the day I die you will see a smile on my face and on that day I want you to salute me with that beautiful smile I call grace never let no one steal your soul if it's God you trust then you will always have control." Staring back at my friend a smile appeared with my tears engraved in her skin, so long my friend.
