Tattoo Star Chart

Ink me, then
I’ll help you join the dots
Took a lifetime to gather the coordinates
Now make them permanent

Start with the East
Smoke blackened proud
Move Westwards
Wild green rugged

One point won’t be still
Ancient trails
Screened by smoke

I’ll wear this map
So I don’t get lost again
But leave a space

For the last coordinate

All in the genes! Thanks Ricky.

Wow, this has to be one of the most unique and beautiful poems I have read here on booksie. After reading this, I closed my eyes for a while and reread it in my mind, with a grin becoming wider and wider. It is just so thrilling to come across such a beautiful piece of work. I'm going to read more of your poems over the weekend.

Wow - what a comment, thanks! When I wrote this I had just found my birth family and finally knew where I came from ( all the way back to the 1200s, incidentally!).So this poem was written out of the joy of seeing myself connected with history and continuity. Glad you enjoyed it!

The way you normally leave us to work out the meanings or draw our own conclusions is always a favourite as its such fun to see different peopels interpretation of the things you write.

Knowing this piece is family-tree inspired adds a new and special layer to an already wonderful piece of writing. Finding out about families are so interesting, especially if there is a skeleton or two!

*Also please excuse the awful grammatical errors, was doing two things at once typing the above comment and being male, failed at both!
