You didn't realize

At first neither did I

But you were more loved each day

It took a while

But then one day I knew:

We were growing apart

You took and took

And I gave and I gave

For a while it was fine

Time passed, and I didn't have much more to give

Thought you didn't need anymore to take

And I missed my little girl

I was going to say something

Because you were getting older

And so was I

But when I opened my mouth

I saw the stars in your eyes

And I could only say,

"I love you. Be happy."

I was old and tired but,

Those eyes of yours

They kept me young and happy

Now, even those eyes aren't enough

I'm sorry to leave you

So, so sorry

But this time I really have nothing left to give

And you don't need me any longer

You've moved on

All I can hope for

Is for you to have someone you love

Someone who'll keep you going

Someone with stars in their eyes
