I'm trying, believe me I am
trying for a better life
doing what I should do
as your partner and your wife
trying to avoid unnecessary quarrels
to keep the peace all I can
why all the pointless squabbles
and you say you are a man
I'm trying to do what is right
and build what we have started
you look for reasons to fight
for reasons to complain
you say you have our future in sight
but everything seem in vain
you want me to conform
to who you want me to be
accept me for who I am
I'm my own person, don't you see?
We're in this together
but you're driving us apart
I am trying, because I want to
That's my aim from the start
please grant me the liberty
To think, to say, to do
or be who I was created to be
I' m trying, believe me, it's true
Don't cause me to stray
The going is getting tough
When temptation come my way
I might not be strong enough
I want what is best
For the life we have together
Put all your qualms at rest
You'll drive me away, forever
I'm trying, believe me I am
