I smile and you smile

For the barest second, the briefest moment

Just for awhile

We smile

It’s like this moment or that memory

Like the sweet perfume, the haunting scent

Just like the rose you gave me

Soft petals, the touch I mourn

Dry dew drop, empty sunlit

Pierced, just a single thorn

I smile, you smile

Only this second, not the next

Linger just for awhile

We smile

For a rose

From the briefest moment, torn

The tears are for the thorn
