FLOWERS FOR EMMA, JUST A NAME ON A TOMBSTONE (patspoems)

Poetry By: patspoems
Poetry

Walking through a graveyard one day I came across the grave of a young girl of 20 - called Emma. I couldn't get her out of my mind and decided to leave her flowers the next time I passed, which I have done ever since.

The day was grey
Like the colour of the stone that spelt your name
I laid the flowers
And I'm sure I felt you smile.

I touched the stone, so cold and dark and grey
But felt a warmth that I cannot explain.
Was it a tear that fell
Or just the gentle raindrops on my cheeks

I felt you close - although you're far away.
I said a prayer for you
Then whispered my goodbye
God Bless you Emma. I will call again
