Poetry By: PaulChafer

This is primarily for Katie, who writes poems of a similar theme and style. Although I know Anna, Pat, Nazire and Irwin will read and enjoy this one too, and as it is one of those open to interpretation, depending upon ones own life experiences, they will probably all derive different, but also similar meanings, if that makes sense. It seems to mean different things to me, I wrote it during an extremely troubled period of my life, maybe this is the reason. I got better;o)

Shutting down, shutting down; shutting down:

All senses rushing away;

Light that has glowed so brightly,

Growing dark forever and a day.

Retreating from swift, encroaching, blackness,

Thoughts succumbing as memories take flight;

Embracing the escape of inevitable death,

Transcending invisible barriers of light.

And I turn from approaching darkness,

Vacating the body that once was mine;

Shedding fear to accept understanding

Existing; beyond space, and time.

Now flushed, with peace and knowledge,

Saturated with a love, born of being,

Coalescing with unbound universal spirits,

Assimilated with a oneness, so supreme.

Bathing forever in life's unseen kudos,

Where all don the metaphysical crown,

Beyond destinies coincidence and chaos,

Shutting down; shutting down: shutting down.
