Beyond Sleep (For Katie)

Poetry By: PaulChafer
Poetry

After reading the poems of Katie I became inspired to write something with her good-self in mind. This poem came about through chatting on various subjects such as the mass of thoughts, astral themes and meditation. Using what I term a 'blended' style, a mixed format of blank verse bottomed out with a rhyming couplet 56 words in each verse, partly inspired by Susan's 'same but different' contest. I have said too much already: typical eh!

As I drift beyond sleep's

Gossamer veil, lucid dreaming

Some would say, I project

Myself above Earth's physical realm;

Stretching, reaching for another

As insubstantial as a thought

Whispered upon a breeze.

For even thoughts have mass,

So we are expected to believe,

Weighing down my slumbering mind,

Is it I that they wish to deceive?

I sense another beyond sleep's

Gossamer veil, astral travelling

Some would say, floating free,

Alive, aware, she too reaches and

We connect, minds, emotions, feelings,

As insubstantial as a dream

Shared beyond time and space.

For even dreams have meaning,

So we are expected to believe,

Linking such like-minded souls,

Entangled in the webs we weave.
