You sleep and I feel your chest rise and fall

My head bobs in rhythm like a child in a trance

And I wait…

For our heart beats to meld to one, synchronized and loud

To drown out the screams that come from the outside world

We have grown to hate so much.

Eyes blink open and you see me as I watch your sweet slumber

But you drift back into your dreamland

And leave me once again alone and awake

As your stiff arms hold my heart

Suspended in its cage.

But sometimes I sleep and you watch my butterfly eyes as they dream

And my mouth makes words that you can't hear…

But maybe it's better that way.

In my dreamland I've made a world full of nothing

And no one, not even you or me or god…

My dreamland is an abyss where nothing enters

Nothing leaves

And nothing ever changes.
