He walks in the door
With beer on his breath,
He's wild and crazed
And he smells like death.
He flies up the stairs
Like a bat out of hell,
And everyone knows
That this won't end well.
He pulls on the knob
Of his son's bedroom door,
And throws him a punch
Then throws a few more.
Dazed and confused
But incredibly mad,
The boy throws a punch
Right back at his dad.
Through slurs and screams
He kicks out his son,
And says if he comes back
He'll bring out his gun.
So the boy grabs a bag
And packs up his stuff,
But with so little time
He hopes its enough.
The boy walks to his mom's
Through the harsh winter cold,
And although he's still young
He can't help but feel old.
He sleeps on the floor
'Cause there isn't a bed,
And he can't stop the thoughts
That have filled up his head.
But the very next day
When he looks at his phone,
He has a text from his dad
Asking why he's not home.
He doens't remember
The things that he'd done,
His only reminder
Is his beaten up son.
He begs for forgiveness
He wants one more chance,
But his son's had enough
Of this drunken-night dance.
