She drives like she is flying,
She knows the way so well,
She stops herself from crying,
There's no one she can tell.
He smiles when he sees her,
He greets her at the door,
He chokes her then he frees her,
And leaves her on the floor.
She wonders at teh bruises,
She conjurs an excuse,
The violence that he uses,
Is unppovoked abuse.
With a kiss he calms her fears,
She lays upon his chest,
When he wipes away her tears,
She forgets about the rest.
She knows she is in danger,
But can't seem to escape,
She'll have to mind his anger,
Avoid each scratch and scrape.
She smiles at his fingers,
They soothe her stinging cheek,
She fears them when they linger,
They strike; her heart feels weak.
And she wishes on the stars,
To take her pain away,
As she glances at her scars,
She finds no words to say.
She swears that she will leave him,
He says, "I'm sorry...stay?"
She can't help but believe him,
She almost got away.....
