Beneath the Fear

Today by chance I saw something

Looking back at me from the mirror

A strength and depth and clarity

Glanced out behind the fear

For just a moment

I could see

The person I could

learn to be

I saw a look of confidence

A small smile that said it's true

In my eyes I saw acceptance

and the power I could use

For just a second

glinting there

I saw the face

I long to wear

The face promised for my future

A person of honesty and light

It renewed my stubbornness

Returned my will to fight

I knew then

That below

My childish outside

A life could grow

So if you see me

Searching the mirror

Know that I'm looking

for the girl beneath the fear
