The Girl With Fire Burning In Her Eyes

Poetry By: PurpleDream19

A girl is left alone with nothing and the inspiring flames of a fire provides her with the determination to pull herself together and get through. This was my first attempt at a sonnet.

She trembles like a small frightened kitten,

Curled up in a ball, chin on her knees.

Someone please help me she silently pleads.

She chews her nails, her bottom lip bitten,

Her once playful eyes no longer glisten.

Pulling her rags tight to her, she wears her heart on her sleeves.

Her eyes drink in the fireplace flames, she shallowly breathes.

Born deaf, she has but her heart to listen,

To listen out for comfort and for hope,

To hear reason and to know what to do.

She must dry her tears and learn to cope,

She must take charge and battle through.

Overcome obstacles, not sink but float.

With burning fire in her eyes, she will start anew.
