I'm No Richard Cory

I was inspired to write this poem after reading the poem "Richard Cory" by Edward Arlington Robinson. This is the poem "Richard Cory"

Whenever Richard Cory went down town,
We people on the pavement looked at him:
He was a gentleman from sole to crown,
Clean favored and imperially slim.

And he was always quietly arrayed,
And he was always human when he talked,
But still he fluttered pulses when he said,
"Good-morning," and he glittered when he walked.

And he was rich--yes, richer than a king--
And admirably schooled in every grace:
In fine, we thought that he was everything
To make us wish that we were in his place.

So on we worked, and waited for the light,
And went without the meat and cursed the bread;
And Richard Cory, one calm summer night,
Went home and put a bullet through his head.

I'm no Richard Cory
By She'Davia Williams

I'm no "Richard Cory"
Though I often seem like him
Like everything is going right
And nothing at all can make me cry

But what I really feel inside
Is something more profound
I feel like shit
I feel like crap
Like I dont want to be around

But no, I'm no "Richard Cory"
I dont have everything
I dont have fame
I dont have money
I have no reason to sing

People do not admire me
As I walk throughout the town
Instead they stare
And shake their heads
As if they all wear gold crowns

Yes, I'm no "Richard Cory"
But his path was quite intriguing
He had everyone fooled
He made everyone drool
But to him his life was quite fatiguing

I will not be "Richard Cory"
I wont do what he did
on "one calm summer night"
I will not "put a bullet through [my] head"

"Richard Cory" was not like I
He made the choice to die
But I wont take that
I will fight back
Until I can make everything right

See, I'm no "Richard Cory"
