The Unbelievable Truth

I'm sat in my boat of unbelievable truths,

I do as I'm told as we both search for proof

That my mind is sound and I can jettison

The monkey on my back and acknowledge what went on

In that life I called mine where the edges are blurred

And the screaming cruel memories still demand to be heard.

*

Reclined and resigned to ebb and to flow,

So speak to me now and let yourself float

Down deeper and darker through the sea to its bed,

Where you'll find the trauma that resides in your head.

There they are! Can you see them? An ornate golden chest,

Where your troubled mind thought you'd laid them to rest,

But to rest was my goal, I put them there for a reason,

Yet you sit before me and demand psychological treason.

*

Open the chest and then rummage around,

Stir up the jewels until they fall on the sand,

Clutch the one to your heart that scares you the most,

Yes that one! Now tell me, is it one of your ghosts

That plague your todays and the desire to be free,

No need to be frightened just narrate what you see.

*

You must tell me the truth and be resolutely prepared

To abhor your own voice and detest every word.

From your mouth will come scenes that embarrass and shame,

But you'll feel it's fine to tell me your pain,

You can cry if you want I'm not here to judge,

The ensuing flood is for the greater good.

*

Now picture a hard drive both broken and still,

Consumed with a virus and devoid of the will

To recover, reboot and restore cached screens

That would serve to remind that not all is obscene.

Reach out to the circuit that is melted and charred

And read me the script that is etched onto your scars,

My resisters don't register and my diodes are doomed

And I'm frightened to recite from this pulpit in my tomb.

*

But recite them I do and as the words pass my tongue,

I feel very calm within my hypnotised lung.

Now follow my voice as we rise through thedepths,

Our time is now ending and you now must rest

Your mind that's aware of the life in this room

And the sounds of today beyond this delicate womb

Where I've probed at your lesions and lovingly soothed

Your surplus, unwanted, unbelievable truths.
