See Like Me
I know these words might leave me sly,
They catch my throat and bleed me dry again.
I know my vigilance awry,
Soon’s I realize,
This fearsome flaw I lend.
Unto myself I lay this claim,
And feel myself drift down so far again,
Just see exactly how I lay,
Under the weight,
Of entire seas and rain.
If I don’t tell you everything,
You won’t understand,
Though I know what I say,
Makes me seem out of hand,
There’s a fire that my heart revolves around,
Sounds that scare and make me turn about,
And I see all you see,
But you don’t see like me.
They beat me down with hellfire’s rage,
Can’t get them out your strangling hand again,
Your power speaks like thunder’s call,
And, in defeat,
I roll beneath your shadow.
Could you ever try to see like me?
Hopeful that you’ll never be as free,
‘Till inside of you it’s me you see,
You couldn’t see inside of me,
And never see like me.
